Wil
North American Premiere
This tense and thrilling tale, inspired by a true story, unfolds in Nazi-occupied Antwerp and follows the journey of Wilfried Wils, a young idealistic artist who also serves as an auxiliary policeman. Wavering uneasily between two worlds, the grip of violence and distrust hanging over the city escalates as he treads a delicate line between the oppressive Nazi regime and the local Belgians. As the pressure mounts, Wil and his fellow officer and friend Lode, are forced into a dark collaboration in the hunt for Jews, all the while secretly supporting the resistance. With beatings, destruction, and roundups intensifying throughout the city, Wil ultimately finds himself compelled to take an action that leads to unforeseen, devastating consequences. Directed by Tim Mielants, best known for his acclaimed series Peaky Blinders, Wil asks us to reflect on the risks and sacrifices we would be willing to make in the fight against evil.
