The year’s “great documentary” (Film Threat) uncovers the fascinating story of a mysterious Long Island Jewish couple whose half-a-billion-dollar gift to Israel, the largest single gift in the history of the state, inspires peace and climate action through water tech. The film meticulously weaves together the life stories of this mysterious couple, Lottie and Howard Marcus, who we come to learn were Holocaust refugees leading a quiet life in a modest San Diego apartment. Astonishingly, they chose to bequeath their substantial wealth to Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, with a clear objective of advancing the study of water management. Their underlying aspiration was to play a role in contributing to regional conflict resolution in Israel and championing peace through innovative water solutions.

However, the Marcuses' story delves deeper than just philanthropic wealth dedicated to a significant cause and the selflessness that enveloped this grand gesture. The film also explores the unique circumstances of the couple's lives and how their donation had so much to do with giving back for just being alive. As survivors of the Holocaust, Lottie and Howard Marcus managed to escape Nazi Germany in the 1930s, a fate that eluded many members of their families.

Their remarkable and inspiring story is vividly portrayed in this acclaimed film, which also includes interviews and insights from prominent figures who illuminate the Marcuses' extraordinary philanthropy, including Warren Buffett, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway; Yitzhak Herzog, President of Israel; historian Daniel Gordis; bestselling philosopher Micah Goodman; E. This special premiere event will feature the attendance of producer Marc Bennett and Ellen Marcus, Lottie & Howard Marcuses daughter, who will introduce the film and participate in a conversation afterward.
