The Good Person

Southeast US Premiere

Life is messy — and an artistic life in Israel all the more so. Drawing inspiration from Bertolt Brecht's play "The Good Person of Szechwan," the award-winning Israeli film The Good Person stars Moran Rosenblatt, a renowned actress known for her outstanding work in TV series like Fauda and MJFF films such as Kiss Me Kosher, Wedding Doll, and Apples from the Desert. Moran stars as Sharon, a dedicated arthouse film producer from Tel Aviv focused on creating empowering films for women. But upon returning from an international film festival, she discovers her life in complete disarray. Suddenly facing financial ruin and with no viable prospects, she reluctantly agrees to meet with a commercial producer whose artistic values clash with her own. In an unexpected twist, he proposes that she take on a project that involves resurrecting the career of Rabbi Uzi Silver (played by Rami Heuberger from Golda and Schindler’s List), an ultra-Orthodox rabbi who was once a legendary film figure but abandoned his secular lifestyle decades ago to fully embrace religion. He aspires to reenter the world of cinema by adapting the biblical epic tale of King Saul, but with an all-male film crew. Under normal circumstances, Sharon, who built her producing career on championing women and telling topical stories, would decline the offer. What follows sets the stage for the audience to make their own decisions, letting us decide which compromises are acceptable and whether art should take precedence. Filmed in rich black and white, The Good Person not only satirizes the eccentric film industry but also offers profound insights into our own lives and values.
