Terezin
North American Premiere
Shot inside the infamous Theresienstadt concentration camp, also known as the Ghetto of Terezin, this powerful film explores a previously unseen side of the camp, which notably included scores of composers, painters, sculptors, poets and writers, the heart and soul of central European culture at the time. It is in this light that Terezin tells the story of Antonio, an Italian clarinetist, and Martina, a Czechoslovak violinist, who fall in love with each other during the Second World War. Shortly after, they are captured by the Nazis and deported to the Terezin concentration camp. Their love story is intertwined with the incredible stories of the many Central European Jewish artists and intellectuals imprisoned in Terezin that despite being such an oppressive place, succeed in staging an incredible series of cultural activities that became essential tools for survival.
