Co-writer and co-director Aviva Armour-Ostroff delivers a mesmerizing lead performance in this dynamic film about politics, religion, the mental health care system, and parenting. In Toronto 1994, Miriam, a South African-born Jew, navigates a manic episode triggered by her determination to vote for the recently-freed Nelson Mandela. Having spent years fighting apartheid, Miriam is eager to return to South Africa to vote in the historic election. But her mania escalates when she meets her teenage daughter’s African Canadian boyfriend.

Directed by Aviva Armour-Ostroff, Arturo Perez Torrez
Aviva Armour-Ostroff was born in Montreal, raised in South Africa, and has called Toronto home for over thirty years. Since graduating from George Brown Theatre School, Aviva has made a name for herself as an accomplished stage actor and director, having seven Dora nominations and one win to her credit. Arturo Perez Torrez is a Mexican-born Canadian film director and screenwriter. He is most noted for his 2017 film The Drawer Boy, for which he received a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
