Event Details
Based on a true story, iMordecai is a heartwarming and hilarious celebration of life’s unexpected adventures. Academy Award-nominated and two-time Emmy-winning actor Judd Hirsch (Taxi, Ordinary People, Independence Day) shines as Mordecai Samels, a spirited Holocaust survivor living in Miami with his devoted wife, Fela, played by Academy Award nominee Carol Kane (Hester Street). Their son Marvin, portrayed by Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings), is a dedicated cigar maker juggling family responsibilities while caring for his aging parents. When Mordecai’s trusty flip phone breaks, a chance encounter with Nina (newcomer Azia Dinea Hale) at Ultratech leads to a life-changing journey. Equal parts comedy and heartfelt drama, iMordecai is a love letter to Miami and a reminder to embrace every moment that will leave you smiling, inspired, and ready to live life to the fullest.
The special event will feature an appearance by director Marvin Samel, who will share insights about the inspiration behind the film and its powerful message.
The Screening the Holocaust series is presented in collaboration with the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany (Claims Conference), the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach, the Holocaust Teacher’s Institute, and The University of Miami’s Sue and Leonard Miller Center for Contemporary Judaic Studies.
