Keep Away from the Window

Directed by Jan Jakub Kolski

Poland | 104 minutes | 2000

Polish with English subtitles

Nominated for 8 Polish Film Awards, Keep Away from the Window is set in a town in Nazi-occupied Poland and centers around a once happy marriage that begins to fall apart when a couple finds out that they cannot have children. A Jewish girl hiding in the couple’s house becomes pregnant with the husband’s child. The couple tries to pass the baby off as their own, setting all the characters onto a complex and dangerous journey. Based on the story “That Girl From Hamburg” by Hanna Krall, Keep Away from the Window delicately balances a complex private drama with the backdrop of a larger tragedy.
